Leftfield Live

‘Leftism’ was released in 1995. I was 10.  So for the past 15 years I have been waiting patiently and eagerly to see the one like Leftfield, and finally the day came. On 20th November 2010 Leftfield came to the Barrowlands in Glasgow.

I cannot express how excited I was. We arrived early, got our spot right at the front in the middle and waited. Unlike most gigs, the support was great. Dubstep/dnb artist Breakage nicely warmed up the crowd, and then it was time.

I could write an essay on how incredible Leftfield was. It was an experience like no other. The higlight of 2010, one of the top five gigs I have ever been to and was, pretty much, out of the world.

Having an older sister has its perks, mainly that I was introduced to electronic music at a very young age. Thank you Kath.

Welcome Geo-Social Good

“If you ever believed that social media really could help make a difference in the world, then we’ve got some great news for you.

If it wasn’t for just one social initiative, people in need in the U.S. would have missed out on 332,000 meals, 94,000 trees would not have been planted, more than 45 million liters of clean water would not have been provided in developing countries, 39,000 books would not have been donated and 190 cruelly treated animals would not have been rescued and rehabilitated.”

Mobile apps

I attended the Interactive Scotland inMobile conference yesterday and was rather impressed by James Parton’s, Head of Developer Marketing at Telefonica, presentation about app ratings.  Was absolutely stunned to learn that a staggering 375,000,000 different versions of an app would be required if it were to support all devices – crazy!

Coming to a Like near you

The Facebook Like button has been appearing all over the web the past few months, but now they will begin appearing in online banner ads. Interesting.

This could prove to be a massive opportunity for advertisers, but lets hope it encourages them to get a little more creative with those standard banner ads we are subjected to on a daily, if not hourly, basis.

Life in a Day

YouTube has teamed up with film directors and producers Ridley Scott and Kevin Macdonald to experiment with a concept to produce a user-generated feature film.  ‘Life in a Day’ will run on Saturday 24th July 2010 only and people have 24 hours to film a day in their life.  Scott and Macdonald will select footage and edit it into a documentary. All submissions will be hosted on the YouTube channel, regardless if used for the film or not.

So, do have anything exciting going on this Saturday?  It just so happens that I’m going to a fancy dress party, so that is likely to make some interesting footage!  Can’t wait to get filming.

Innovative Social Payment Platform

A brilliant new social commerce model set-up by Innovative Thunder whereby people can ‘buy’ products such as music, books and software with a tweet rather than cash money.

So, who can benefit from it?  Innovative Thunder suggest that DJs, music producers, authors, creatives and film directors are just some of the people who could utilise this system as a viral promotional tool.

A fab add on to the wonders of word of mouth.
